The Royal Philatelic Society
Candlewick, Tuesday 3rd March
You are invited to a special Club Exhibition and Members’ Day at the Royal Philatelic Society London.
We very much look forward to welcoming you and your guests to enjoy a fascinating private exhibition created especially for the Club. This unique display will explore remarkable moments in London and postal history, brought to life through rare and historic material.
The exhibition will include:
-
London’s Coffee House Mail – the foundation of the City’s insurance industry, established by Edward Lloyd, a resident of Candlewick.
-
City of London revenue and mayoral stamps.
-
The Guildhall Exhibition of 1890 – displayed by the RPSL to mark fifty years of the Penny Black.
This grand Exhibition and Conversazione was organised by the Corporation of the City of London and initiated by former Lord Mayor Sir James Whitehead in aid of the Rowland Hill Benevolent Fund. The event was attended by the Prince of Wales and held over three days at Guildhall.
There will be two guided tours of the exhibition during the day, offering members and guests the opportunity to explore the displays in greater depth and hear the stories behind these extraordinary items.
Members and guests are warmly encouraged to join together for lunch (either after the first tour, or before the second) at Harry’s on Abchurch Yard, adjacent to the RPSL on Abchurch Lane. This provides a relaxed and convivial setting to enjoy good company and conversation following the morning’s activities.
Please join us for what promises to be an engaging and enjoyable day, and do feel free to bring family and friends.
The timetable for the day is as follows:
11.00 am – Morning Tour
1.00 pm – Lunch at Harry’s (optional)
3.00 pm – Afternoon Tour
The cost for lunch at Harry’s is £20 per person. Guests are most welcome.
